Debra A.
Taylor formerly known as Debra Goodwine, a
lifetime native of New Jersey, is the founder of
the organization “Taylor-made Divas,” she’s
married to Nolan G. Taylor a native of
Philadelphia. Between the two, they have ten
children, however, Mrs. Taylor has assisted in
the upbringing of countless children within
every community she has resided in. She’s best
known for her ability to teach; starting with
Sunday school, and taking part in a defensive
tactics team, but most of all teenagers know her
for teaching self-respect.
As Mrs. Taylor
children became of school age, she stayed very
occupied in various child-based organizations,
such as; Volunteering to help coach the Middle
School Track & Field Team, Gymnastics’ Clubs,
involved in the Isshinryu
Karate Club and Coaching Pop Warner Cheerleading
Squads, which earned her “Volunteer of the Year”
in 1992-93. Not only did Mrs. Taylor keep her
children occupied within the community she made
sure any friends the children brought home got
involved in activities. In her hometown,
regardless of a child’s ethnic background, Mrs.
Taylor is fondly referred to as everyone’s Aunt
Debbie; her words “just do your best” always
brought children back to her for encouragement.
Most teenagers in the town of Lakewood, New
Jersey from the mid 70’s to early 90’s knew if
they had a problem they could always talk to
Aunt Debbie.
Mrs. Taylor’s
compassion didn’t stop once she left Ocean
County, as she became a resident in the Camden
County area in the early 90’s, she immediately
picked up where she left off, getting involved
in the school systems being the team-mom for
various High School Track & Field Teams,
Highland H.S., Overbrook Senior High, and
Edgewood High School, making herself available
for any assistance needed by coaches. Debra
Taylor has willingly occupied herself with
adolescence for the majority of her life.
Motivating and helping children excel from one
level to the next comes as second nature to
her. Her kind, yet firm words of love and
encouragement helps teenagers understand that
“your life” is what you make it. Her warmth,
laughter, and high sense-of-humor are so
contagious it places a person in a relaxing
state, making it easy to except her guidance.
Therefore,
when her daughters and other family members
showed an interest in helping young ladies who
are showing growth within the community, Mrs.
Taylor was there to assist in anyway she could.
As for the organization’s name
“Taylor-made Divas,”
the committee took the word “tailor”
which means, to shape
a certain way, and changed it to
“Taylor,”
which is Mrs. Debbie last name. Keeping the
understanding that, Mrs. Taylor
guided and shaped her young ladies, and so many
more with a sense of self-respect and
confidence, that in today’s society such
behavior is looked upon as a “Divas”.
